Hazardous Household Waste collection days
TasWaste South is holding two household hazardous waste collection days in March 2025.
This is a great chance for residents of southern Tasmania to safely get rid of their household and garden chemicals for free.
Local Government Forum August 2024
We recently held our Local Government Forum with representatives from our member councils.
Future of Local Government Review - Final Report submission
Paul Jackson, CEO of TasWaste South, made a submission in response to the Final Report on the Future of Local Government Review, released by the Local Government Board. Jackson commended the thoroughness of the review and expressed support for the proposed amendments to the Local Government Act, particularly those related to mandating participation in shared services, as outlined in Recommendation 9.
Draft Emissions and Resilience Plan for the Waste Sector
In a recent correspondence, Paul Jackson, CEO of TasWaste South, provided feedback on the draft Emissions Reduction and Resilience Plan (ERRP) for the waste sector, which was supported by the Tasmanian Government. Jackson expressed appreciation for amendments made to the State of Play Report following previous feedback and identified areas for improvement in the ERRP.
Recycling and Waste Reduction (Export - Paper & Cardboard) Rules 2023
Paul Jackson, CEO of TasWaste South, submitted feedback regarding the Recycling and Waste Reduction (Export – Paper and Cardboard) Rules 2023. TasWaste South, a joint authority consisting of 12 councils in Southern Tasmania, contracts with Cleanaway Pty Ltd for the processing of recyclable materials, including waste paper and cardboard.
Material Recovery Facility Refund Protocol submission
Dr. Katrena Stephenson, Chair of TasWaste South, recently provided feedback on the draft Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Refund Protocol, following a discussion paper shared in June 2023. TasWaste South carefully reviewed the draft Protocol and addressed the key questions raised.
Draft Container Scheme Regulations 2024
Dr. Katrena Stephenson, Chair of TasWaste South, submitted feedback on the draft Container Refund Scheme Regulations 2023. TasWaste South, which was established by 12 Southern Councils to enhance coordination of waste management and resource recovery, expressed support for the Container Refund Scheme.
