Our Board
TasWaste South is governed by a Board. It is responsible for the business and other affairs of TasWaste South, ensuring it acts in accordance with the Rules.
The Board has five Directors. All the Directors are appointed by the TasWaste South Local Government Forum. The Forum includes an appointed member from each of the 12 member councils. The CEO reports to the Chair and Board.
Dr Katrena
Stephenson

CHAIR
Katrena has over 20 years of management experience, including as CEO of the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) and as a Director at Kingborough Council. She has held senior policy and operational roles in both Tasmania and Britain.
Now a Non-Executive Director and consultant, Katrena chairs TasWaste South and serves on multiple additional boards. She is committed to a more sustainable future and played a founding role in the establishment of TasWaste South.
Mayor Sally
Doyle
DEPUTY CHIEF MEMBER REPRESENTATIVE
Cr Sally Doyle has served on Huon Valley Council since 2018 and as Mayor since 2022. She ran a successful excavation business for 27 years and holds a Teacher’s Aide certificate.
A Director of Destination Southern Tasmania and former Huon Valley Community Bank Director, Sally remains active in community committees. She is passionate about waste management and is committed to sustainable solutions for future generations.

APPOINTMENT
Corey
Peterson
DIRECTOR
Corey is the Chief Sustainability Officer at the University of Tasmania (UTAS), leading innovations to reduce and recycle waste while embedding sustainability as a core UTAS value.
Corey brings waste policy, operational expertise, and strong governance credentials from his involvement in various not-for-profit boards, including eight years on the University’s governing Council.
Corey understands the economic challenges of recycling in southern Tasmania and has presented strategies to the State Waste Board and TasWaste South stakeholders on mitigating these challenges.
Ernest
Hacker
DIRECTOR
Ernest is an experienced senior manager with international expertise in manufacturing and waste management and a deep knowledge of waste logistics and recycling economics.
As General Manager (GM) at Boyer Mill, he oversaw the disposal of significant quantities of industrial waste and gained approval for a secondary wastewater treatment plant.
As GM at Albury Mill, he managed the reprocessing of 75,000 tonnes of recycled paper and a wastewater irrigation scheme.
In New Zealand, Ernest was instrumental in building a 25MW geothermal power station. While in Austria, he initiated a successful waste-to-energy project with the Bruck Mill.
