OPPORTUNITY:

Communications and Engagement Officer

Hill Consulting is partnering with TasWaste South a purpose-driven organisation established by the 12 Southern Tasmanian councils to coordinate the recovery and management of solid waste across the region.

With a strong focus on sustainability, this organisation plays a critical role in fostering the efficient use, collection, and reprocessing of resources—delivering tangible environmental and community outcomes.

They are seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer to lead strategic communications and engagement activities for TasWaste South, connecting stakeholders, communities, and industry to their important work.

Title: Communications and Engagement Officer

Role Type: Part-time 0.8 FTE

Term of appointment: 4 year fixed term contract (until 30th June 2030).

Salary: $85,000 to 95,000 per annum pro rata

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the development and delivery of strategic communications and engagement initiatives that inform and connect with TasWaste South’s diverse range of stakeholders.

You will:

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate communications strategies and stakeholder engagement plans

  • Provide clear, practical communications advice to internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Create engaging written content, including website copy, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials

  • Manage media relations, including maintaining media contact lists and supporting media engagement

  • Plan, produce, and distribute newsletters and key communications

  • Coordinate workshops, meetings, and stakeholder presentations

  • Build strong relationships with councils, government agencies, contractors, and community groups

  • Oversee website content and liaise with external providers

  • Develop templates and reporting tools to support communications activities

  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all channels

About You

You are a confident and adaptable communications professional who can operate both strategically and hands-on. You thrive in environments where you can build strong relationships, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality communications outcomes.

You will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in planning and delivering communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement initiatives

  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills across a range of formats, including media releases, newsletters, websites, social media, and promotional materials

  • Advanced organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage, influence, and negotiate with diverse stakeholders

  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with a high level of initiative and accountability

  • A current driver’s licence

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, combined with practical experience
