OPPORTUNITY:
Waste Project Manager
Hill Consulting is partnering with TasWaste South to appoint a Waste Project Officer to support the delivery of key waste management and resource recovery initiatives across Southern Tasmania.
This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful waste and resource recovery outcomes, working collaboratively with councils, industry, and the community to achieve sustainable practices and support the circular economy.
Title: Waste Project Officer
Role Type: Full Time
Term of appointment: 4 year fixed term contract (until 30th June 2030).
Salary: $90,000 per annum
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Waste Program Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of waste and resource recovery projects.
This is a varied role combining project support, research, and stakeholder engagement, where you will contribute to both strategic initiatives and day-to-day program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the engagement and management of contractors and consultants, including procurement activities
Researching issues and providing advice to inform program delivery
Contributing to the delivery of strategy
Preparing written materials, including reports, briefings, submissions, and project documentation
Building and maintaining relationships with councils and key stakeholders
Representing the organisation at forums, meetings, and events
Providing project and administrative support to the team
About You
You are proactive, with strong attention to detail and a strong interest in sustainability, waste management, or environmental policy. You enjoy working across a variety of projects and are confident engaging with diverse stakeholders.
You will demonstrate:
Knowledge and understanding of waste management, the circular economy, and resource recovery, including the role of local government
Experience supporting the delivery of projects or initiatives, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines
The ability to contribute to policy and strategy development within a sustainability or environmental context
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with stakeholders
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise reports and documentation
The ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with a high degree of initiative
A current driver’s licence
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, combined with practical experience
